Annual Meeting September 14 - 15, 2013
How time does fly by when we are doing the work of the Lord through United Methodist Women. This has been a very busy year for Holston Conference United Methodist Women and many great things have been accomplished.
Plans are now complete for our Annual Meeting on September 14-15. It is our sincere hope as a conference leadership team that everyone will come and be a part of this meeting. Yes, it is a time when we conduct the business of the United Methodist Women and you are indeed a vital part of this. Your vote in any business that requires a vote is very important. We have some great worship leaders who will lead us in our time of worship on Saturday and Sunday and if you want to receive a real blessing – BE THERE!
Reverend Asa Majors, Associate Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Maryville, will be our worship leader. Reverend Majors works with the youth and young adults along with other pastoral responsibilities. She is a daughter of Holston as she grew up in Pearisburg, Virginia and graduated from Emory and Henry College in 2006. She then received her Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology in Atlanta in 2009 and was ordained in June of 2011. She lives in Maryville with her husband, Brian, and their sheltie dog, Jack. Our music leader is Loretta Bowers and pianist is Nelta Buck. Loretta and Nelta are the music director and pianist at St. Paul United Methodist Church of the Carter County Parish, Elizabethton. They are both very active in leading the St. Paul Choir at events and will certainly bless us with their leadership. Cheryl Trent, from the United Methodist Women, Inc. office in New York, will be with us to tell us about the restructuring of the United Methodist Women and to install our newly elected conference officers for 2014. Cheryl is a native of Holston Conference, having served as a youth director in her church in Virginia as well as other positions.
Sue Clapp, District President of the Knoxville District will guide each of those persons holding district officer positions to their proper training locations. All district officers are strongly encouraged to come and receive your training in order that you may return to your districts and train the local unit officers. Paul Bowman, a representative of the Holston Conference Foundation, will have a display set up and will be happy to meet with those persons who are not involved in officer training and interested in knowing more about the Foundation during the officer training.
We hope this will be a great time of worship for each of you as well as informative. Make your plans now to be there and ask your local unit presidents and district officers to make sure you get a copy of the Annual Meeting Brochure when it is published.
Yours in Christ,
